Welcome to King’s residence!
King's Housing & Residence Life teams are thrilled to welcome you to our campus community in the fall. While our Housing & Residence Life teams work closely together, they are responsible for leading different aspects of the residence experience.
The Housing team is led by Tim Ross, Assistant Dean of Housing & Ancillary Services. Housing and Ancillary Services oversees:
Residence applications
Room assignments
The physical space in residence
The patrol and front desk teams
Campus cleaning staff
The contract with Chartwells (the team who runs our dining hall).
Room assignments begin in late May or early June. If you have any questions regarding residence, please email residence@ukings.ca
The Residence Life team is led by me, Ashley Nixon, Assistant Dean of Residence Life (ADRL). Residence Life oversees the community experience in residence. The ADRL manages the Programming & Community Engagement Coordinator and the Don Team. Together, they oversee:
Residence programming
Primary support for residents
Referrals for more in-depth support (as needed)
Incident/emergency response
Residence conduct.
As someone who lives and works at King’s, I will be one of your neighbours this fall. I’d like to share a little bit about myself and the experience I bring to our community: I am a white, queer; non-binary person and I use they/them pronouns. I live at King’s with my partner Brooke and our lovely cat, Pyewackett.
I grew up in the beautiful Annapolis Valley here in Nova Scotia before moving to Halifax to attend university. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, and a Bachelor of Social Work. I have over thirteen years of experience working in residence life both as a student and as a professional.
Our teams are eager to create opportunities for you to make new friends, find community, and learn outside of the classroom! Together, we hope to connect with you and support you through the joys and challenges that comes with university life.
There will be plenty of opportunities for us to connect closer to Welcome Day. Until then, Housing & Residence Life would like to wish you all and incredible and safe summer, we look forward to getting to know you more in September!
All the best,
Ashley Nixon (they/them)
