A Fall of Rain at Mitimiti Poem
Imagery and Poetry Task
Follow the PowerPoint for pre-reading, during reading, and post reading activities.
Pre-reading: Introduce setting and imagery. Play Kahoot quiz to ensure students understand.
During Reading: Give each student a copy of “A Fall of Rain at Mitimiti: Hokianga”. Ask them to circle imagery and underline nouns that help them identify the setting—examples are included on the PowerPoint—while the poem is read aloud.
Post Reading:
Have a quick class discussion to see if there is any vocabulary they are unsure of. Use the Rangipapa slide.
Split students into four groups and assign each one a different section of the poem (on the PowerPoint). Students are to create a dramatised version of their section--instructions are also on the PowerPoint.
Student presentations.
