The NV VIA Day, held on 30 and 31 March, provided our Secondary 4 students with a meaningful opportunity to give back to the community and champion environmental causes. Students engaged in various enriching activities, taking active steps in environmental conservation through beach clean-ups at several coastal locations and a hands-on tree-planting initiative at Pulau Ubin. Some classes partnered with Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve to develop an advocacy project aimed at raising awareness for local biodiversity. Others focused on community engagement, bringing joy and companionship to the elderly at SASCO Sengkang, NTUC Income Bukit Merah, and NTUC Income Home at Heartbeat@Bedok by thoughtfully planning and facilitating interactive activities. Through these shared experiences, our students developed a stronger sense of civic responsibility, empathy, and a deepened community spirit.
Environmental Conservation: Coastal Clean-ups
Students from classes 4B, 4C, 4H, and 5N participated in Learning Journeys along Singapore’s coastlines to carry out meaningful beach clean-up activities. To maximize their impact across the island, 4B focused their efforts at East Coast Park, 4C headed to Coney Island, 4H cleared the shores of Pasir Ris Beach, and 5N cleaned up Changi Beach. These hands-on experiences deepened the students' appreciation for environmental sustainability while allowing them to contribute positively to the community.
Fostering Community Bonds
Students from classes 4A, 4D, and 4F spent their VIA Day connecting with seniors at SASCO Sengkang, NTUC Income Bukit Merah, and the NTUC Income Home at Heartbeat@Bedok. The students thoughtfully planned and facilitated interactive activities to engage the elderly, bringing joy and lively companionship to the centres. Going the extra mile, two of the classes also accompanied the seniors on an outing to a local hawker centre for a meal. These meaningful interactions helped bridge the generational gap, allowing students to cultivate empathy, respect, and a stronger sense of community spirit.
Advocacy Project for Biodiversity in Partnership with Sungei Buloh
Students from 4E took their learning beyond the classroom with an enriching visit to the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. Applying concepts from their Biology lessons, the students designed informative posters and videos focused on biodiversity conservation. Through this advocacy project, 4E successfully stepped up as environmental advocates to raise awareness about protecting our local ecosystems.
