Project ACRES

Did you know that Singapore is home not just to a population of 5.45 million people but also to over 537 species of birds, reptiles and mammal species? Yet, as urbanization continues, human-wildlife conflicts have become increasingly common, with otters venturing into homes and wild boars roaming through parks.

In response to these challenges, North Vista Girl Guides embarked on a heartwarming fundraising project in partnership with ACRES, an animal protection organization in Singapore.

The goal was to share with their peers the importance of preserving Singapore's rich biodiversity, and fostering a harmonious coexistence with our wild neighbours!

With unwavering dedication, the girls poured their hearts and souls into this endeavour, devoting 3 months from July to October to meticulous research, product design, product development, and publicity efforts.

Their efforts culminated in a remarkable fundraising event on October 17th, where they sold out their beautifully crafted handmade bags in 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟐.𝟓 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬, raising an astounding $𝟔𝟔𝟎 for ACRES! This donation will definitely go a long way to support the efforts of ACRES in wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.

Beyond the contributions made to ACRES, the project has instilled in our girls invaluable lessons in resilience, teamwork, and advocacy. This meaningful experience has also ignited a passion within them to continue making a positive impact on the world, inspiring them to champion causes close to their hearts.

Let us all remember that no effort is too small in doing good. We look forward to more meaningful service projects initiated by Vistarians! 🌟

Visit to Precious Active Ageing Centre for re:ACT Festival

On 23 October 2023, the Drama Club embarked on a meaningful journey to the Precious Active Ageing Centre, their hearts filled with a blend of outreach aspirations and research objectives. This visit was not merely an act of service; it was a journey to delve into the realities of the elderly in Singapore, seeking to understand the challenges they face and the resilience they embody!

Through this, the Drama Club sought to enrich their upcoming performance piece for the re:ACT Festival 2023. This is an annual festival organized by inwardBOUND, where Drama Clubs from various schools transform the stage into a forum theatre to illuminate social issues, inviting reflection and dialogue from the audience.

The visit to Precious Active Ageing Centre interlaced dance and movement with a mini forum theatre performance. The elderly's infectious joy and shared insights ignited the Drama Club's passion, forging an intergenerational bond that transcended age.

This bond was strengthened when the elderly residents demonstrated their support for the Drama Club students at the re:ACT Festival!

Beyond an outreach initiative, this experience has been a testament to the transformative power of art and community. Our Drama Club hopes to further nurture the bond forged with the residents through future interactions!
