MILITARY CHILDREN IN OUR SCHOOLS COURSE
Purple Star School Award

This is a self-paced course focused on assessing and addressing the unique needs of military-connected students in our schools and is required for school Points of Contact applying for the Purple Star School Award. This course is designed to provide background information and assistance to educators as they provide instruction to students who have family members serving in the military. Thank you for taking the first step in creating a welcoming school for Nevada's military children and families. 

The Nevada Purple Star Schools Award program is designed to help schools respond to the educational and social-emotional challenges military-connected children face during their transition to a new school and keep them on track to be college, workforce, and life-ready. The Purple Star School designation helps military-connected families identify which schools in their vicinity have taken extra steps to fully support Military connected families.

Professional Learning Hours

At the conclusion of this course, Nevada educators may be eligible to receive 2 hours of Professional Development hours to fulfill state licensure renewal requirements. You will receive a certificate of completion via email after submitting the course evaluation and final reflection.

Q & A and Support Meetings

For more information or help completing your application, please use one of the links below to register for a Purple Star School Q&A and Application Support meeting. These virtual support meetings are held every month via Teams from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM. Participants do not need to attend the entire two hour meeting. Please use the links below to register. The meeting link will be sent in a confirmation email.
