NPTU
National Pingtung University (NPTU)
National Pingtung University (NPTU) , a newly merged university on August 1, 2014, inherits the rich teaching and research potentials in the fields of technological and vocational education, comprehensive highter education, and normal education from National Pingtung University of Education (NPUE) and National Pingtung Institute of Commerce (NPIC).
NPTU is divided into three campuses: Minsheng Campus, Linsen Campus and Pingshang Campus, which all are located i Pingtung City. The west campus (Linsen campus) is the site of the university's science building, music and art departments, swimming pool, and student activity center.
Teachers
All CLC instructors are experienced and qualified, possessing degrees or certificates in Chinese, Chinese Teaching and other related field.
All of them have received special training in teaching Chinese to non-native speaker of Chinese.

As a reminder for those who are applying for a visa, make sure to obtain a copy of your enrollment certificate before you enter Taiwan.
Chinese Programs are open to foreigners over 18 years of age with a high school or higher diploma or its equivalent.
Full-time Students: At least 15 classes (50 mins) per week, 150 classes in one semester. (Foreigners who want to apply for study Chinese visa to Taiwan. )
Part-Time Student: Customized, at least 24 classes (50 mins) in one semester. (Foreigners who lived in Taiwan and take visitor visa or visa-free to Taiwan. )

To apply for our Mandarin program, please send us the following documents we need:
1. Complete application form with One 2-inch recent photos.
2.Photocopy of diploma or certificate with school transcripts or equivalent academic records.
3. Photocopy of passport first page (with passport number, name and personal details and photograph).
4. Recent financial statement (past three months) endorsed by a bank to prove that the applicant has at least US$2,500.
5.Recent health report. (must include an HIV and TB test).
*Other required documents: Photocopy of diploma and certificate with school transcripts or equivalent academic records. Don’t need to be handed in to us. Those documents might be asked to show by officers in different area while applying overseas Chinese Student Visa.

1. Send the required documents (No. 1-3 listed above (English or Chinese versions are all accepted).
2. After the application documents have been examined, an acceptance letter will be issued.

Official Financial Statement / Certificate of account balance:
(1) A financial statement issued within 3 months, showing an ending balance exceeding USD 2,500 or its equivalent.
(2) If a family member's financial statement is submitted, please attach a guarantor letter stating willingness to support your stay in Taiwan.
(3) A scholarship recipient may submit the scholarship certificate in place of a financial statement.

Refund Policy
Please go to DOC Office to apply for refunds. Average processing days for refund requests are 7-10 working days.
The Refund Policy is based on the Ministry of Education’s Guidelines for Colleges with Extension Education Programs.
”Refunds” refer to tuition cost only. Other costs, including application fees and insurance costs, will not be refunded.
Students who pay for the next term in advance for the purpose of visa application may request for a full refund if their visa application is rejected. The refund request must be submitted with a proof of visa rejection before the new term starts or within the first week of the new term.
Course Information
Course & Language Levels
CLC offers a wide variety of courses at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Most are 3 months long with 2 – 15 hours per week. These courses focus on the development of speaking, listening, reading and writing, together with improvement in grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. The course design is based on a two-year program, during which students may progress through beginner, intermediate and advanced stages.
Teaching Materials & Method
The following table shows the teaching materials used at CLC.
Authentic teaching materials, such as Chinese newspapers, train or bus timetables, restaurant menus etc. are also used, so that students can use what they have learned in the classroom in their everyday lives.
Courses are designed to be lively and interactive, so flash cards, activities, group discussion, role play, pair work and other effective teaching approaches are also applied.

Classes offered by CLD can be put into three categories: special arrangement classes, small group classes and study tour.
Special arrangement classes refers to one on one (individual class), one on two and one on three; and small group classes refers to a class with a minimum of 5 students. Special courses are designed for study tours, which are based on the requirements of the group.

Extracurricular Activities
Social and cultural activity: Studying at CLD gives students a great opportunity to get to know and enjoy Pingtung and meet other international students. CLD organizes a day trip to places of interest in and around Pingtung area. CLD also organize trips to visit theme-based cultural festivals held by the Pingtung County Government.
Regular Activities: Indoor activities include: speech contests, reading, story-telling, singing contests, charade, Chinese whisper and so on.
Students are encouraged to join NPUE clubs and other NPUE extracurricular activities.
End of session party: To bring the semester to an end, CLD holds an end of session party for all students.

Life in Pingtung
Financial Planning
Although the cost of living in Pingtung is generally less than larger cities such as Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, Kaohsiung and so on, NPTU Language Center recommends that you budget well to cover tuition, accommodation, food, electricity/telephone, entertainment, clothing, and travel expenses. The following list is for your reference.
(1) Living expense ranges from NT$5,000 to NT$7,000 per month in Pingtung.
(2) Accommodation
On-campus accommodation ranges from NT$5,500 to NT$8,810 per semester (depends on the dormitory assignment).
Off-campus accommodation ranges from NT$20,000 to NT$30,000 per semester.
(3) Books and supplies: expenses vary from program to program.
(4) Miscellaneous expenses: (subject to change)
Residence visa application: NT$3,000 (NT$4,400 for students holding American Passport)
Alien Resident Certification (ARC) application: NT$1,000
Student Insurance: NT$103 per semester
National Health Insurance: NT$659 per month (compulsory insurance program and requires a six-month payment at one time). Please visit: http://www.nhi.gov.tw for relevant information; any change in charges should be followed by the announcement from the Bureau of National Health Insurance.
Deposit of dormitory key and relevant expenses: NT$1,000-1,500 for key deposit,and other relevant expenses depend on the dormitory assignment.

Our dormitory provides students with over 3,700 beds. These places have quite and beautiful environment, comfortable and safe. Our dorms ask the students to manage themselves, and they can get in the dorm with their own cards; besides, we also have 24 hours security service. There are cafeterias and student canteen in both males and females dormitories, enable our students to have meals and buy what they need in the dorms. We also have cable televisions, community rooms, rooms for table tennis, studying, and discussions, and the vender machines, bath, drinking fountains as well. There are charged washing machines and tumble dryers on every floor of the dorms, and air conditioners on nearly every store, to make sure that our students can living and learning in a comfortable environment, that we can change our students into qualified people of all aspects with the warm and harmonious living environment.
There is a lounge on each floor in the dormitories where students can enjoy leisure activities. There are coin-operated washing machines, dryers, and public phones on particular floors. There is a public common room, a study room, an art room, and a table tennis room on the first floor of dormitory, for sake of leisure exercises for students. Other facilities include restaurants, a coffee shop, a haircut shop, and a bookstore.
Our school is in Pingtung City, near the railway station (the distance from the station to our school is about 3 kilometers). Transportation is highly convenient. There are regular and frequent bus services between the school and the bus station (Scooters and bicycles are commonly preferable for students at NPTU).

Transportation to NPTU
Transportation to NPTU
A. If you are coming from overseas, there are two major international airports in Taiwan. They are the Taoyuan International airport, located in Taoyuan county (about 40 km from Taipei City) and the Kaohsiung International Airport, located at the southern part of Taiwan. It will be better fly to Kaohsiung International Airport. If you wish to be met, let us know in advance (e.g. 2 weeks before your arrival) when and where you will arrive and the means of travel. Airport transportation service will be arranged for you at your own expense.
B. If you arrive at Taoyuan International Airport, you can take long distance highway buses to Kaohsiung. From Kaohsiung, you can easily get a transfer to Pingtung by bus, train or taxi.
C. If you are already in Taiwan, you could either come to Pingtung by airplane or train. Please check the schedules using the following:

Weather
Pingtung does not have very distinctive seasons. The weather in Pingtung is mild and humid all year round. Daily temperatures average 30℃ in the summer, and 17℃ in the winter. For your reference, the following are some information from Central Weather Bureau of Taiwan (http://www.cwb.gov.tw).
Health Care Service
The Health Center is located on Min-sheng campus. Itprovides consultation on health issues, free vaccinations, and general clinical services, including the treatment of injuries. A school doctor will be present Monday through Friday afternoon at 12:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. to provide outpatient clinic services. Whenever there’s a need for referrals, patients will be forwarded to hospitals in Pingtung or Kaohsiung for appropriate evaluation, follow-up and therapy. Students are advised to buy health insurance in their countries before coming to Taiwan, since only international students with an ARC are guaranteed insurance coverage in Taiwanese hospitals.
Insurance
There is only one kind of health insurance in Taiwan – National Health Insurance (NHI).Foreigners who are staying in Taiwan for at least 4 months and holding a Residence Certificate are eligible for, and should enroll in, the NHI Program. They have to go to the local administrative office to enroll in the NHI program.
Before they are eligible for the NHI program, students can either purchase their own insurance or participate in a temporary health insurance program offered by the Language Center of National Pingtung University of Education.
When traveling overseas for a short period of time, either on business or on vacation, and then returning to Taiwan with a valid ARC, foreigners must remain enrolled in the NHI program.
