This is a research seminar that prepares students with readings and discussions on the scope and methods of research in North American History with a focus on material culture as a possible resource of primary sources.  Through discussions on readings in theory, methodology and various pieces of past scholarship, students are expected to begin working on their own research projects so that every student may be able to make a short presentation on their topic by the end of the semester.  This year, we will read chapters from Cynthia Enloe's  classic work, entitled Bananas, Beaches and Bases: Making Feminist Sense of International Politics, Second Edition (University of California Press, 2014) on the relations among gender politics, beauty, international politics and imperialism.   In addition, we are aiming to continue the third year of the student-joint seminar project that explores the history of the Department of English Studies.
