Staff Recommendations: 

This application was originally applied for with the scope being repairs to the roof and the request to remove the chimney. However, while setting up an inspection time with the inspector for the district, it was explained by the applicant that the contractor had already taken down the chimney under an Interior Demolition permit, beyond the approved scope of work. Upon inspection, there was evidence that the chimney was no longer properly supported and was causing pressure on the wall structure of the building. However, because the chimney had already been removed we were not able to determine if the chimney had been structurally deficient, which could have been approved at staff level. 

While Staff does not support the removal of chimneys without the proper inspections and permits, staff recommends that the retention of the chimney removal be granted.
