HDLC Guidelines:
Section 5, page 9 - HDLC Guidelines for Roofing
Retention Items:
Chimney Removal: Retention be granted.
Staff Recommendations:
On October 10, 2022 inspector Daniel Syal noted a large pile of bricks, and missing chimney on the building during a Demolition by Neglect inspection. The applicant stated that the tree at the front right corner of the building had fallen during Hurricane Ida and damaged the chimney, warranting it's removal.
Hurricane Ida made landfall on August 29, 2021. Pictometry satellite images show the front chimney and tree at 911 Jackson is in tact on September 3, 2021. Satellite images taken September 10, 2021 show that the chimney and tree had been removed.
As the chimneys were removed without HDLC approval or permits, but cannot be reconstructed, Staff recommends that the retention application be granted. Staff also recommends that the applicant work closely with staff moving forward.
