What if?
1. My D2L credentials do not work.
a. https://passwordreset.nl.edu/showLogin.cc
b. Helpdesk: 1-866-813-1177 or helpdesk@nl.edu
2. I do not have access to a course shell to populate my section (for template programs—only).
a. Please contact your support person.
3. I need help navigating D2L.
a. http://www.nl.edu/lms/facultyresources/
4. I am going to be out of town for a few days with no access to the Internet.
a. Please contact Program Director/Chair.
5. I am confused about the Start and End date of my course.
a. Your Start and End date of your course can be found here by searching by term and your name: http://www.nl.edu/course_schedule/
b. You may not adjust the Start and End dates on your syllabus; they must match what is on the schedule.
6. I need a book for my course.
a. Please ensure you have a copy of your textbook at least 3 weeks in advance of your course starting. If you are asked to select a textbook for a course, this would be done 6 weeks in advance of the course starting.
b. Find the current textbook here – please compare to your syllabus in your master shell: http://nlu.ecampus.com/shop-by-course
c. In general publishers are now hesitant to send out physical copies of textbooks for free. NLU has a membership to VitalSource where you can typically access most titles for free and some, instantly. Please go to: www.vitalsource.com and sign up for an account with your NL email address. Search for the ISBN and request a copy or add to library. If it is the former, you will need to wait until the publisher approves it.
d. You can also go to the publisher directly by visiting their website and requesting access to the online textbook and instructor companion site.
e. Lastly, you can approach our publisher rep to see if they will send a physical copy. You can search for our rep’s names on their websites; we do not keep this list as it changes often.
f. NLU does not pay for instructor copies of textbooks.
7. I have things I need help with respect to students:
a. Tutoring is handled in our libraries. There are in-person and virtual opportunities for our students. Students should have access to this information in D2L (in Start Here), but you can also direct them here: https://nl.edu/learning-support/tutoring/
b. Advising (scheduling & academic progress) is a separate office. This information should also be in D2L, but you can also direct them here: https://nl.edu/student-services/academic-advising/
c. Disabilities:
i. Direct students in need of disability and access services to: https://nl.edu/ada-accessibility-services/
d. Inappropriate behavior:
i. Key resource for 7(d, e and f): Student Guidebook: https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.nl.edu/media/nlu/downloadable/studentservices/2015-2016_studentguidebook_final.pdf&sa=U&ved=0ahUKEwihusuhz9TMAhVr9YMKHaInC2gQFggIMAI&client=internal-uds-cse&usg=AFQjCNGhGxpKUfghqzSqx8Jv9wHjYz-trg
ii. Please attempt to handle it informally on the first offense (unless it is an emergency, if so, please refer to #8 above). If the behavior persists, please contact Bettyjo Bouchey.
e. Plagiarism:
i. Turn on TurnItIn for written assignments.
ii. First offenses may be handled informally by the faculty member in a private setting and as quickly as possible. It is helpful for resolution if the faculty member takes a “teaching moment” approach, if possible. Faculty may choose from the list of possible remedies on Page 23 of the Student Guidebook. An email with the student name should be sent to Samuel Radom even if the issue was resolved easily. Further instances may be subject to the process outlined on Page 22.
f. Grade complaints (course is in-progress):
i. Faculty members should attempt to resolve informally, please contact Program Director/Chair if you need/want advice.
g. Grade complaints (after grade posting):
i. Students should approach you first and then follow the student complaint procedure as follows (Page 19):
