In order to prepare you to join the NLU faculty community, you will be provided access to a series of self-paced, online trainings to acclimate you to teaching and working here. Please visit the NLU Center for Teaching & Learning Excellence's New Faculty Jump Start orientation page for this information.
Also, as a new online faculty member, please review our Online Teaching Accelerator area for the foundational items that will help you be successful in your first term with us. Better yet, and if you have not taught online before, we ask that you take our self-paced Excellence in Online & Remote Teaching course for a deeper dive into exceptional and high-impact practice! Please access and submit the reflective exercise at the end of the experience to help us better know how to serve you as well.
Topics covered range from obtaining access to the NLU Faculty Portal, Email, and D2L – our learning management system, textbooks, handling student issues, key policies and procedures, library and learning support, teaching online at NLU, and Quality Matters essentials. Your orientations are always available to you and they can be accessed at any time should you need the material at a later date.
In addition to the self-paced, online training, Department Specific Orientation may be required which is conducted using video-conferencing. This orientation would cover a variety of topics specific to the department along with introductions to key members of the holistic student support team. Your academic leader will reach out to you, directly, if there is a department specific orientation as well.
