After the lesson plan was finalized and the PowerPoint presentation was prepared, I took the initiative to collaborate with my cooperating teacher. Seeking their valuable feedback and insights ensured that the lesson aligned with the curriculum and the student's needs. To kickstart the class and recap the previous session's content, I implemented a game-based learning approach in the pre-lecture segment. Specifically, I designed a Snakes and Ladders game infused with elements of poetry, making the review engaging and interactive.
Given that the overarching theme of the lesson revolved around social critique within poetry and its connection to contemporary social issues, I drew parallels with the political landscape. Using the example of the scandal involving the former president of the Philippines, I stimulated thought-provoking discussions. To broaden their perspectives further, I shared relevant cases of human rights violations in Indonesia, encouraging students to analyze and compare different socio-political contexts.
Following this, the learning experience transitioned into a dynamic discussion phase. With the guidance and facilitation of the cooperating teacher, students delved deeper into the nuances of politics in Indonesia and the Philippines. By examining the similarities and differences, they gained a more comprehensive understanding of the complexities and interconnectedness of social issues and political systems in both countries.
