The demo teaching I conducted encountered a few obstacles that impacted the overall experience. One issue arose concerning the timing of the games. When the games exceeded their allotted time of 15 minutes, I had to intervene and expedite the process to ensure that the lesson stayed on schedule. This intervention, however, led to some unintended consequences. Students, eager to secure victory for their group, began to compete intensely for the remaining questions and the associated points. While their enthusiasm was encouraging, the competitive atmosphere became somewhat disruptive.
Another challenge I faced was managing my own nervousness. Public speaking, especially in a teaching context, can be anxiety-inducing, and I was not immune to this. My nervousness initially affected my performance, making it less than optimal. Recognizing this, I made a conscious effort to compose myself and regain my composure. By focusing on the material and the students, I was able to overcome my initial anxiety and deliver the lesson more effectively.
Lastly, there was a technical issue with the slide presentation. Due to an error, the text on two parts of the final slide did not appear as intended. This could have been a major setback, but I was able to adapt quickly. Rather than panicking or dwelling on the error, I improvised by explaining the missing content manually. Fortunately, the images on the slide were still visible, and my familiarity with the material allowed me to provide a clear and comprehensive explanation.
Despite these challenges, I remained calm and focused throughout the demo teaching. My ability to think on my feet, adapt to unexpected situations, and maintain a positive attitude ultimately allowed me to deliver a successful lesson. The experience reinforced the importance of flexibility, preparation, and composure in the teaching profession.
