In our fourth, and final, Public Health Engagement Lead (PHEL) funding call we are delighted to confirm we awarded funding for a further 7 PHELs. We now have 29 PHELs who cover 145 local authorities across England.

On Tuesday 30 June, we welcomed our PHELs to their first away day in London. 19 PHELs joined Kay Howes, and Ashley Adamson, alongside David Pye, Research Lead for the Local Government Association, and Jessica Sheringham, Chair of the PHEL panel.
The day focussed on sharing practice and connections between our PHELs, and introducing new colleagues to the network. Thank you to our PHELs and hosts for sparking such engaging and thought‑provoking discussions.
PHELs bring us together with local authorities, Health Determinants Research Collaborations, and Local Authority Research Practitioners to champion collaboration and promote the value of research active organisations.
Kay Howes, Chief Operating Officer said: “It was great to attend the away day and see and hear about the work our PHELs do to promote research across England. I want to thank all our PHELs for their commitment to promoting research opportunities and increasing research capacity in local authorities.”
