Can the expression of design thinking be enhanced in scale and performance - from the
hand drawing within a sketchbook to the full body choreographing its own thinking space?
Wing it, is a darkefact that is reminiscent of the apparatus making process in HOTMESS, and
explores the transition of design thinking focusing from the hand to the full body. In its
compressed state, this wing can be fitted inside an A3 cube. When performing it spreads out
and exerts its effect on the performing architect to expand their thinking space from an A4
sketchbook to a 1:1 working space.
A skeletal structure of the wing facilitates a collection of analogue drawing tools as feathers to adapt and improvise with the current conditions of the working site. This wing also responds to the performer’s growth of design thinking – where the more brushes collected, the more visual media possibilities on a building concept.
Design thinking is not always intentional throughout the design process – yet, I tend to ‘Wing It’ to give myself a break and let my ideas fly again.
