Kia ora!
My name is Nicola, an aspiring architect who recently completed my Master’s thesis and gained an MArch (Prof) - First Class Honours from the University of Auckland. I am enthusiastically seeking opportunities to approach the professional field of architecture. Throughout my studies, I engaged in various building projects, including residential, commercial, education, and performative installations, as showcased in this portfolio. My design approach involves intersecting analogue and digital media styles. I start by sketching the design concepts with comics and spatial diagrams that lay the groundwork for a brief. Transitioning to digital modelling, I developed and refined the building form and structure of the project. This mixed media approach not only guided me in my design exploration but also honed a versatile set of creative skills to be adaptable to various projects in my University Studies. In my thesis research, I have delved into an intriguing practice of wearable architecture - exploring the fusion of body and clothing structure that reimagines a personal and performative form of architecture. This venture gave me additional hand-sewing and sewing machine skills to construct a softer, tactile side of architecture. In tandem with my academic achievements, I bring hands-on experience as a technician at a secondary school, immersing myself in the intricacies of 3D printers and laser cutters. This role gives me more in-depth knowledge of digital fabrication and its applications in design. With a firm foundation in architectural principles and experience in interdisciplinary approaches, I am driven to explore innovative design solutions that harmonize, form, function and performance.
