December 2022
Upon completing my thesis 2022, I had the opportunity to participate in Modelling
Tamaki Exhibition, organized by the architecture research firm, GroupWork. Guided by Tessa Forde, a co-founder, the project focused on envisioning a wearable representation of a chosen public space in Auckland to express our personal connection with it. The wearable embodiment becomes an architectural ‘model’ of a city installation.
The Auckland Library is quiet yet it stands out in the busy Auckland City for people to enjoy browsing books. I imagined combining the structure of a crinoline with the bookshelf to express the storage of knowledge shaping the bodily form of the library. This crinoline bookshelf was designed with mobility in mind to echoe accessibility and presence of the Auckland Libraries spanning across Tamaki Makarau. A dress is donned over the crinoline to stand out and resemble the striking Pohutakawa flower, a subtle icon of the Auckland Libraries
