My first large-scale project became a fully-functional arcade machine. Powered by a Nintendo Switch console, it uses retro-style arcade sticks and a cheap TV from Best Buy to create an authentic experience.
My inspiration came from a YouTube channel by the name of Nintendrew, where a seemingly incompetent person managed to assemble a convincing arcade cabinet. I figured if he had done it, so could I.
The project commenced with the assembly of the cabinet's main structure, framed internally with 2x4's. (swipe between pictures)
A drawer was added, and so was the TV, complete with a panel that covered the inner workings. Speakers were added and wired and the entire cabinet was given a coat of primer. (swipe between pictures)
More primer covered the remaining blemishes, and several coats of blue and black paint gave it a finished look. (swipe between pictures)
The arcade cabinet was topped off with a light and marquee, as well as two retro joystick pads and bar chairs I had refurbished from a flea market.
