Next Meeting - Top Spec Feed Talk 7.30pm 13th October 2025 at Rochdale Golf Club
Email To Cycling UK
We read with interest the article by Sophie Gordon on the 15th May 2023 regarding the tremendous work she has done to get the route in the Lake District onto the Definitive Map.
We are well aware of the effort that this takes, having been involved in successful DMMO Applications over 25 years, both as our organisation and as a previous bridleway group.
Just a quick thought, did Sophie think of contacting local Bridleways Associations or the British Horse Society (BHS) during her research? By working together the equestrian and cycling organisations would be much more effective in providing Safe Off-Road Riding for all vulnerable road users (Pedestrians, Cyclists and Equestrians). In addition, if when you are talking about new routes, you could also mention horse riders using the routes too it would benefit all. Too many of the recent new paths have been created for Pedestrians and Cyclist with no mention of Horses, who too are vulnerable road users and would really benefit from access to these safe off routes.
By working together we can all ensure continued safe access to off road paths.
If you would like to work together with the local bridleway group for the area (or the BHS) on any future paths please do not hesitate to contact them. The affiliated Equestrian Access Groups can be found at https://www.bhs.org.uk/about-us/our-access-work/find-your-local-eag/
Kind regards
