Repair of Handle on the Gate of Bridleway RocERupp51 

RocERupp51 goes from Edenfield Road (opposite the former Nutters Restaurant) to Leaholme Farm and then onto Wolstenholme Fold via RocERupp48 and RocERupp42.

The entrance to RocERupp51 on Edenfield Road has always been a dangerous entry due to the gate at the end of the lane being very close to the busy Edenfield Road and its fast traffic. For a couple of years now we have been working with the farmer to try and develop a more horse friendly approach whilst meeting the requirements of the farmer regarding access and stopping fly tippers and cars parking in the entrance.

Last year the horse gate opener snapped close to the catch meaning that riders either needed to dismount to open and close the gate or needed to bend down a long way to reach the broken catch (see photo below). After consulting with the farmer, NBHBA purchased a new gate handle and replaced it onto the gate meaning it will now be a lot easier for riders to open and close the gate whilst mounted. Although the entrance remains very close to Edenfield Road, it does mean that the time taken to open and close the gate will now be greatly reduced hence protecting as much as possible riders from the traffic on Edenfield Road.
