As mentioned in my previous project, I moved into a new apartment and got myself a new TV! I made a TV stand and it looked great, but it also turns out that when you don't have the TV against a wall then the back of a TV looks kinda ugly. Thus, I decided a fitting solution was to build a bookshelf that conveniently hides the back of the TV!
Like the TV stand, I modeled the bookshelf in CAD first so that I could make sure it fit in the small footprint of our apartment and would look nice.
Nothing fancy here, just a bunch of straight cuts on the table saw and miter saw to produce the necessary boards and panels.
Assembly was a combination of pocket screws and glue to held stiffen up the frame in preparation for (hopefully) the years of use to come. Wood can soak up paint pretty fast leaving a rough finish, so once assembled I applied a layer of primer to give the final paint a better base to bond to.
After final layers of light gray paint, the bookshelf looked great! It was the perfect size for placing behind the TV; just as planned. The only oversight was that the family car isn't the biggest, so fitting the bookshelf in it for transport was a very tight squeeze. Oops!
