We're now taking our first steps into building a game together. We decided to work on a story that I (Scott) had started writing quite a while ago. I released one book, but I never wrote anymore because I didn't get much feedback from it. But I'm not concerned about that anymore. Instead I want to look at the future and what I can make with the stories I've written in the past/.
The very first step was to brainstorm ideas for it. So we wrote down things that came to mind onto a sheet and expanded from that. We also added what kind of game we wanted it to be and what feelings we wanted players to get from it.
Then we broke down bits we needed for it. Thankfully we have quite a few bits and pieces already, including a swathe of things we have purchased from Synty Polygon Assets and MalberS Animal Pack , which will hopefully work well together as they have a similar style.
After taking stock of our resources we know we have a lot of the things we already need to get started.
Next we're going to build a GDD so we can both be up to speed with what we need. And as we go, if there is something we need doing that is outside of our scope, then we'll outsource to people who can do this. Though we will not be doing that for coding, as that then defeats the purpose of us learning through this.
Looking over everything, building this a little at a time feels like the right thing to do. And if we work on our own projects in between we'll hopefully be able to skill ourselves up for various bits as we need.
