NEW: The trial final will be online on Moodle from 10pm Budapest time on 30th May. You are encouraged to try it out by 2nd June at any time of your convenience, so you are familiar with the system before the exam. The trial exam's level of difficulty is at par with the actual exam, though it is shortened (it has fewer questions).
Exam Instructions:
The exams will be held in Moodle. (You can log in to edu.vik.bme.hu with an EduID.)
The exam will consist of two parts for a total of maximum 120 points.
The final grade is obtained by taking the grade from last year's midterm (ZH) and points on this final exam (V) computed as follows:
Total score = 0.4 * ZH + 0.6 * V (ie 40% midterm, 60% final).
Based on the total score, the grades are: for 40 points the grade is 2, 55 - 3, 70 - 4 and 85 and above is 5.
The first part of the exam consists of ten multiple - choice questions, which must be solved in 30 minutes and account for a maximum of 60 points of the final.
At least 3 correct answers must be achieved, otherwise the exam will not succeed (and terminate) and at least 6 answers must be correct to be able to take the second part of the exam.
Whoever has exactly 3 correct answers will get 10 points,
4 correct answers, 20 points,
5 correct answers, 30 points,
6 correct answers, 40 points,
7 correct answers, 50 points,
and who get at least 8 correct answers score 60 points on this
section.
At this point you can choose to end the exam (without taking the second part) and your grade will be calculated as described above, using the score from the first part as your score from the final.
Then, the result of the first part and the final grade with its score, is displayed and the students has 15 minutes to decide whether you accept this offered grade or attempt the second part of the final exam (if they had 6 correct answers in Part 1). This decision has to be marked in Moodle.
The second part of the exam consists of three problems, each of which is worth 20 points and must be solved and uploaded in 60 minutes. Anyone who does not score at least 20 out of 60 in this second part will obtain an exam grade one worse than if you hadn’t attempted the second part. For anyone who achieves at least 20 points in the exam in the second part, the score on the final is the total of the two parts (each a maximum of 60).
The problems of the second part are more involved than the multiple choice questions and resemble problems solved in the recitations. The solutions to this part must be uploaded as a "Single" pdf file to Moodle by the submission deadline (upload must also finish within this time!)
We accept solutions by hand, on paper and in printed form, and in the former case please ensure that the text is photographed or scanned in good legible quality. Many smartphones
applications are available for this, e.g. CamScanner, TurboScan, Smart Doc Scanner.
There also are built in programs in some operating systems or word processors to convert a photo to a pdf file, but it can also be done online (eg jpg2.pdf.com, smallpdf.com,
Students are advised to figure out their best conversion process before the exam and to ensure they can upload material of adequate quality that is readable (direction, contrast, etc.). Unreadable papers will not be graded.
Notes can be used during the exam (including printed notes on the computer). However, the statements, theorems invoked without proof must be the material learnt in lectures.
When solving the exam, students are prohibited to interact with each other in person or in any other form of communication.
You need to upload one pdf file, which contains everything you want to submit.
The system will be tested out during the week before exams, a further announcement of the same will be made later.
Here is the formula sheet you can use on the finals.
