Digital Citizenship
Nine elements to set our classroom up for success!
1.Digital Access - Students will have access to chromebooks through a sign in user and password that is specified to them. While in use Ms. Tucker will be monitoring use and teaching students how to navigate the classroom website mainly and finding homework or other assignments. Only approved websites that go with the lesson of the day are approved along with the classroom website.
2. Digital Commerce - The electronic buying and selling of goods is strictly prohibited at Fairmount Elementary school and if the rules are broken discipline will come from Administration and is out of Ms. Tucker’s hands. When at home I suggest to minimize the amount of buying and selling online whether this may be with online games or online shopping. Teaching kids about safe websites and how to detect a scam website are useful skills we will be going over in the spring.
3. Digital Communication and Collaboration - When communicating with others in our classroom and online students are expected to be responsible, kind, and safe and if they do not practice these skills their actions will be given consequences. After 2 strikes with our technology the final strike will include the loss of Chromebook and technology privileges at Fairmount Elementary
4. Digital Etiquette - Digital etiquette is so important and all students are expected to carry themselves in a way that represents them positively and these can also be found in our classroom rules. Always think about how an action would make others feel before you post.
5. Digital Fluency - Being able to navigate the internet and other applications with fluency is so important in order to be educated in not falling for scams on the internet and engaging in risky business. Supporting others’ posts is also so important in order to keep our online profile positive. Do not make negative comments or actions online because once it is out there it never goes away!
6. Digital Health and Welfare - The technology we have access to can make our bodies have more access to being healthy – however it is up to us to put that into effect! Make sure you don't spend too much time on our devices and keep your body healthy and fit!
7. Digital Law - Our technology rules in the classroom include no cyberbullying and no sexting, and no inappropriate behavior. If a student is questioning if their actions are inappropriate then they need to rethink that choice. When a student breaks the school’s Digital Footprint Code there are two warnings. After the first warning students receive one indoor recess and a call to their guardian, and after the second warning students receive another indoor recess, a call to home, and a mark on their school record.
8. Digital Rights and Responsibility - The rights and responsibilities of students on the internet need to be just as important about keeping themselves and others safe, and if they see something that is concerning then SAY SOMETHING!
9. Digital Security and Privacy - Security and privacy is so important especially for children online! It is important that you and your students keep personal information out of the chromebooks and not posted on social media – and I highly recommend keeping an eye on their usage as I will be during school hours.
