As a student journalist it's incredibly important to me to highlight sports who are often left out of the spotlight. As a member of the competitive dance team at my high school, I've noticed the discrepancies between our funding and funding for other sports at my school. Furthermore, college dance is not even recognized by the NCAA as an "official sport" despite it being broadcasted on ESPN. My experiences my high school dance team led me to write an article about the lack of recognition that the sport gets. When selecting what stories go in the paper with my editorial staff, I make sure to always prioritize sports that get less publicity around my high school.
