Design & Editing

Editing

The editing process is essential The Charger's success. Each month, staff writers send their stories their beat's editor and makes those edits before the article is sent to me as editor-in-chief. Having multiple rounds of editing is particularly helpful because I can help comment more on aspects such as the structure of the writing and word choice as opposed to accidental typos. I spend roughly four hours every week editing and commenting the work of my peers.

On The Charger, I help train our new writers how to use Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop to create pages to go in our print edition each month. Most people do not have any prior experience using these programs when they first join our staff so they are starting from square one. It's integral that our paper maintains an aesthetically appealing appearance. I always like to emphasize to my staff that design should enhance the story you're telling, not hinder it. Below are a few examples of design I've done on both my own stories and some of the stories of those on my staff:

As editor-in-chief, I design the cover of our print edition nearly every month. Below are the covers I have designed for our October and January issues this year.
