Remember:
When taking point of view photos, it’s crucial to consider how the perspective will affect the composition, narrative, and emotional impact of the image.
Keep in mind RULE OF THIRDS, LEADING LINES, and FRAMING when taking these photos!
Photo Write Up: Choose one of your photos and discuss it in relation to one of the topics below:
1. Discuss how the point of view affects the perception of power dynamics within the photograph.
2. Discuss how the point of view enhances the thematic elements of a photograph.
What kinds of emotions or themes might this perspective amplify?
3. Describe how this perspective contributes to the overall impact and message of the image.
4. Discuss how this perspective alters the viewer's relationship with the subject compared to a standard eye-level shot.
(Well-articulated insight enhances understanding of the artistic intention)
(5 marks)
I chose one of my high perspective photos. This was one of my favourite of all the ones I took. I tried to get the angle a long effect to the bird house, knowing with all the other angles I tried, it was the one that worked best. I’m aware that the exposure of the photo is quite dark but I could easily affect that in Lightroom. I thought the red lantern was a good “brightener” to the photo as it added some colour to the dull under exposed photograph.
Marking criteria:
Every photo must be different
Student demonstrates clear understanding of each perspective by submiting four distinct and appropriately labeled images. Full marks awarded when all angles are easily identifiable and used purposefully.
Photos reflect imaginative thinking, unique subject matter, or unexpected interpretation of point of view. Bonus for creative use of everyday scenes or objects from surprising angles.
The image is in focus, well-exposed, and shows control over lighting and camera settings.
Students must demonstrate creativity in choosing/setting up the scene/setting to photograph (make the photos exciting!)
