Remember:
Leading lines are the key compositional elements that carry our eye through a photograph! They can be used to tell a story, place emphasis, and draw a connection between two objects. Keep in mind RULE OF THIRDS when taking these photos!
Theory question: Choose one of your photos and describe how the lines in the image guide the viewer's eye towards the main subject or focal point. What impact do you think these leading lines have on the overall composition and storytelling of the photograph? Be descriptive! Make sure to include the photo with the write up so I know which one you are talking about!
(5 marks)
I selected this photo because it captures a striking visual contrast—the orderly, vibrant rows of tulips juxtaposed against an expanse of empty space symbolizing the elusive concept of world peace. This stark division evokes a powerful emotional response and serves as a reminder of the paradoxes that exist in our world. While many nations achieve remarkable progress and beauty, others continue to struggle with the absence of basic human rights. The image speaks to the profound inequalities that exist between neighbouring regions—where abundance and deprivation, love and suffering, can exist side by side.
Marking criteria:
Every photo must be different
The photo is sharp, well-exposed, and demonstrates control of the camera (e.g., appropriate depth of field, lighting, and focus).
The photo clearly demonstrates the use of lines that guide the viewer’s eye toward the subject or focal point. The lines are intentional and central to the composition.
The leading lines direct attention to a distinct and purposeful subject. The focal point is in focus and well-placed within the frame.
The composition is balanced and visually engaging. The lines are positioned thoughtfully using technique such as rule of thirds
Students must demonstrate creativity in choosing/setting up the scene/setting to photograph (make the photos exciting!)
All photos must be in focus with the exception for an intentional blur
