Remember:
Using elements within the scene to create a secondary frame around the main subject will help direct the viewer’s attention towards the main subject. It will provide focus and emphasis, depth and layering, contextualize the subject, and add aesthetic appeal.
Keep in mind RULE OF THIRDS and LEADING LINES when taking these photos!
Photo Write UP: Choose one of your photos and explain your choice of the framing element and how it helps to convey the intended message or emotion of the photograph. Discuss any challenges you faced in using this technique and how you overcame them.
(5 marks)
The photograph I selected to write about is this one, I picked this one because I thought it was one of the better “framed” photos I took. The framing supposed to be the leaves and branches surrounding the upper right corner, covering the sky to block out any attention to the clouds, and the subject being a mossy barn. To get this shot it took me 11 shots to get, as I struggled with the amount of depth of field I wanted. Once I finally got the lens to focus on the barn and not the leaves, it worked. I waited a couple minutes to see if the horses would’ve been captured also, but they weren’t budging.
