Academic Team

Through Academic Team, both gifted and on-level students work together to create a team that has a detailed knowledge of Kentucky Academic Standards where they compete in a Jeopardy!-style contest against other schools. It truly is one of those moments when learning becomes fun!

I've been lucky enough to coach some great teams over the years and have made life-long friendships with many of my former students. At Pikeville, our Quick Recall team won the State Championship and was awarded their trophy by the governor at the Governor's Cup ceremony in 2010. When we started our teams in Rockcastle County, we were able to bring home the first-ever Region Championships in both middle school and high school history with scores of students placing at the district, regional, and state levels. 

In 2019, I was honored to recreceive an induction into the KAAC Governor's Cup Hall of Fame. 

I look forward to the opportunity to grow as a teacher and mentor through further extracurricular activities in the future whether those are with Academic Team or something completely new. I am always looking for new ways to impact the lives of young people beyond the classroom.
