The Last Sleep of Arthur in Avalon, Edward Burne-Jones (1898)
Here are some links to websites that I have found extremely useful, both personally and professionally. They will provide you with some great sources of information, entertainment, and literature in my class and others. At the bottom of the page, there are how-to directions for tying neckwear, in the event that you want to formalize your attire, similarly to formalizing your writing in your classes.
Project Gutenberg - https://www.gutenberg.org/
This site provides free e-text versions of most major literary works that are referenced or studied in class. Students can search for and download them for free.
Librivox - https://librivox.org/
This site provides online recordings of classic works of literature and modern texts for free. It posts them in various formats to allow students easy access to the works. I recommend using them as supplementary materials to your own readings in class to assist you in completing them.
Google Scholar - https://scholar.google.com/
This site is an extension of Google that searches primarily scholarly articles and journals and books, as well as patents and online articles. If students use anything found in this search engine, they must be sure to give citations in whatever format they are using (MLA if you are in my class). Remember how to use Boolean search terms to refine a given research topic.
PBS.org - https://www.pbs.org/
This site, while it may seem puerile, holds page linked to major documentaries and episodes of informative shows that students can use to further their own research and knowledge about a subject, as well as online articles that give historical and literary background to certain genres and works.Â
B.A.S.E. or Bielefeld Academic Search Engine - https://www.base-search.net/about/en/
This site is a free database provided by Bielefeld University that allows access to thousands of academic articles and works. Some sources of not in English, and some require a little heavy reading, but this is a great resource for those looking for scholarly and academic articles about cinema and literature. In Year 2 (SIB) of the IB Film Class, students should use the database for potential sources for their Extended Essay (EE) development, and for use in their External Assessments (EAs).
Gale Research Databases - https://azlibrary.gov/dazl/educational-resources/highschool
The Gale Research Databases are a great resource for any middle or high school student looking for sources for reports, essays, and research papers. In the English IV Class, students should use the Databases to find scholarly and analytical journal articles and essays to analyze their Research Topics for the Senior Research Paper. Users must input a valid Arizona zip code to gain access. Google users can also download the articles directly to their Google Drive space for their own annotation.
Adobe Acrobat Reader - https://get.adobe.com/reader/
This site provides a free download to a .pdf file viewing program. Students can use the program to download and view the lecture notes and handouts from this site.
Quizlet Digital Flashcards - https://quizlet.com/
This site is an engaging and helpfully easy way to create flashcards to study, and to exchange information about things discussed in the course. Students should be able to log into an account using their student Gmail account.
