“You always have to be aware of an audience that is extremely ruthless in its demand for newness, novelty, and freshness.”
~director Christopher Nolan
While the craft and purpose of filmmaking are at the forefront of Year 1 and Year 2 of the course, the primary focus of the medium remains the same: people watch movies and films because they enjoy the experience. For students in the course, it is important to keep the audience in mind, and to strive to make them feel better about themselves in the world than when they walked into the theatre. For the purposes of the IB Film courses, and for this reason, we encourage all filmmakers to include some measure of catharsis for the audience to discover / realize / learn / reveal.
