"There is no terror in the bang, only in the anticipation of it."
Attributed to director Alfred Hitchcock in Halliwell's Filmgoer's Companion by Leslie Halliwell (1984)
Film has long been an arena for the creation and testing of various sciences of expression: the modern digital age would not be the same without the inclusion of the modern digital camera, or the smartphone, or wireless internet, most of which has its introductory elements in Film (look up the origins of wireless technology and Hedy Lamarr, an amazing woman, renowned for her acting ability and intelligence, and the phenomenal inventor of wireless frequency hopping).
Students in the course should study the techniques of a variety of directors, editors, cinematographers, and other film professionals, and then go forth and experiment with their own cameras to find out what works and what they can make better. Students in the course are encouraged to study the entirety of Film: visual aspects, technical aspects, auditory aspects, narrative aspects, and thematic aspects.
