About This Print

Several traditional houses set among fields adjoining a river. Night appears to be approaching. In pre-Meiji Japan, minka were the dwellings of farmers, artisans, and merchants (i.e., the three non-samurai castes.)  Perhaps we're looking at Tadashige's depiction of houses in Ogimachi, one of the historic villages of Shirakawa-go along the Shō River.
