Noguchi Kōgai

Noguchi Kōgai 野口紅涯 or 野口紅厓 (c. 1899-1930s)

BIOGRAPHY

Little information is available on the artist/illustrator Noguchi Kōgai who was active, as far as I've been able to discern, during the late 1910s into the 1930s, creating illustrations for popular women's magazines and contributing two print designs (see below) for the woodblock printed 1926 series Taishō Shinsai Gashū 大正震災画集 (Taishō Earthquake Disaster Print Collection.) The entry for Noguchi in "Artist Names: Modern Japanese Printmakers (1900-1945)" tells us he studied under the nihonga painter Tanaka Raishō 田中頼璋 (1866-1940).1
