BTCMobick /ˈbɪtməʊbɪk / is a proof-of-work cryptocurrency that underwent a hard fork from Bitcoin's 10th-anniversary ledger (at 556,759 blocks) on January 3, 2019. The name 'Mobick' is derived from Herman Melville's novel "Moby-Dick."

This initiative is spearheaded by South Korean writer Taemin Oh and is operated by his company known as Otaverse. Its 300 nodes and mining pools are spread across South Korea, the US, and Australia. Due to security concerns, the code remains private. Mining rights will be up for grabs for anyone around the world once it becomes public in 2029.
A whitepaper wasn't provided for this project because the team had no interest in listing Mobick on cryptocurrency exchanges. Oh later released the whitepaper on Oct. 4, 2023, but it is still changeable because it's not a promise to lure investments. Moreover, the project team cannot sell any of their holdings since their wallet addresses are under surveillance by holders. Their 14 paper wallets are securely stored in a bank vault and a 7-member Public Goods Oversight Committee manages the assets. In addition, the Personnel Committee and BTCMobick Council with over 100 members help manage what happens within the community.
Although Mobick is now listed on LBank with a ticker BMB, it is also actively trading between individuals using Bitcoin paper wallets, mobile apps, and websites that facilitate P2P trading. Before exchanges appeared, people traded Bitcoin primarily through direct transactions on online forums and IRC (Internet Relay Chat) channels. Paper wallets were popular among early Bitcoin adopters as a method for storing and transferring Bitcoin because they were a simple and secure way to store Bitcoin. The Mobick community is one of the largest active Bitcoin paper wallet marketplaces in the world.

More than 1/4 of Mobick's total supply will be distributed free of charge to established corporate entities, with the goal of fostering a robust ecosystem on the Mobick blockchain network. Another quarter will be airdropped to early Bitcoin holders on Bitcoin's 20th anniversary. This airdrop will serve to identify which wallets are inactive and which are still in use, as Mobick will be distributed to those who conduct on-chain transactions. The project team's remaining holdings will be incinerated after that.
Mobick's founder believes that tech giants like Google, Apple, or Samsung can bring meaningful changes to people's lives, which is why he doesn't want to compete with them. Instead, he plans to donate a significant portion of his holdings to these companies so they can fully utilize the potential that blockchain technology has to offer. The world is becoming a single, gigantic ecosystem in the metaverse, and the entity that can seamlessly make information cross borders will dominate the world. By building layer 2 and 3 on top of the Mobick blockchain network, these companies can not only become leaders in crypto but also expect the value of their crypto holdings to skyrocket.
Who is Taemin Oh?
Even before diving into the world of Bitcoin, Oh gained recognition as an undergraduate. While serving on the student council at Yonsei University, one of Korea's top private schools, he uncovered financial mismanagement within the council. He made history by hiring an accounting firm to audit and rectify the situation, marking the first time this had been done in Korea. He also wrote a book on decentralization before graduating.
During his service as an officer in the Air Force, Oh was tasked with addressing housing issues in the military. Apartments in Seoul were occupied by the families of high-ranking officers, including generals, who were not entitled to them, causing difficulties for newly assigned low-ranking officers. Oh decided to make the names of these unauthorized occupants public on the Air Force intranet. Despite facing insults, threats, and even insubordination, he succeeded in his mission by ensuring full transparency.
In his professional career, Oh dealt with cybercrimes, money laundering, and gambling. He led an internet startup during the dot-com bubble, but the company eventually failed, leading him to transition into the private education sector. After discovering Bitcoin in 2014, he has committed himself to informing people about the importance of Bitcoin by writing books and delivering lectures.
Oh was the first person in Korea to advocate for Bitcoin miners' potential to benefit the electricity industry by stabilizing the grid and monetizing wasted electricity. His 12-episode lecture series on Bitcoin, broadcast on EBS, was the first of its kind on national television. Currently, he teaches blockchain and geopolitics at Hanyang University’s graduate school. He also runs a YouTube channel called Wisdom of Bitcoin, where he shares his thoughts and insights with a broader audience.
