Bitcoin Degree

Hanyang University offers a 10-week course of Bitcoin AMP (Advanced Management Program). It provides an understanding of the technology, administration, law, and international regulations surrounding Bitcoin. Those who complete the course will receive Mobick equivalent to 70% of the tuition fee.

Period: 25th September ~ 27th November 2024, every Wednesday

Many people still shun Bitcoin due to its association with crime and money laundering. Academia is no exception. It is nearly impossible to find a decent Bitcoin course at the college level because few schools take Bitcoin seriously.

My son often asks me, 'Dad, why should I go to college?', and it leaves me speechless. Steve Jobs said in his Stanford commencement speech, ‘After six months, I couldn’t see the value in it. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and no idea how college was going to help me figure it out.’ I struggle to answer my son’s simple question because what Jobs said about college still rings true. Universities are about 10 years behind. When something big happens in the world, there is usually no way to learn about it in school. They tend to start offering courses after the hype has passed. That’s why you can’t learn about Bitcoin while the revolution is in full swing.

BTCMobick is trying to change that with Hanyang University. Hanyang is one of South Korea's top five private universities, with a strong reputation in engineering and technology. But the college leading the Bitcoin courses with BTCMobick is the College of Humanities, not Computer Science or Engineering. Why? Because they believe that Bitcoin is not just about science; it’s also about the liberal arts.

Bitcoin began with libertarian ideas, and you need to study the humanities to fully understand them. The spread of Bitcoin is similar to that of a new religion or pathogen, requiring social science to explain. With the post-1945 system collapsing, Bitcoin is considered an asset that might help sustain the dollar system or even replace it. You need to study geopolitics and economics to grasp this aspect. Blockchain technology is just one facet of the diamond. You need to see the whole picture to understand what you’re looking at. This program will continue to evolve until it offers undergraduate Bitcoin courses.

Colleges and the entire education system are facing an existential crisis. Advanced AI technology and free information from platforms like Khan Academy and YouTube challenge their very existence. They might have to disappear in a decade or so, except in fields like medicine and engineering. To survive such upheaval, schools must find a way to partner with leading industries. I believe Hanyang University has found one.
