Myanmar (formerly Burma) is situated to the East of India between Bangladesh and Thailand.
The author was requested by WorldOutreach International (NZ) to visit a non profit organisation based in the capital of Myanmar, Yangon, which accommodates children of poor families (particularly from the regional districts) and provides them with food and clothing, and sends them to the local school in the mornings, and provides private tutors in the afternoons. All costs of living and education are supplied by the non profit.
The non profit also operates two other facilities to the West and South West of the capital.
The author visited Myanmar during October 2017.
The survey was completed on the physical condition of the boarding houses, the plant and equipment used, and to identify needs or shortfalls in education standards provided to the children.
Yangon: Two houses on one block of land (one of timber and one of brick) which house 70 children (35 boys and 35 girls) in each facility.
The brick building (girls) is only partially built and requires the completion of the third story.
The timber building (boys) is in a derelict state and requires a complete rebuild. The building has a dirt floor and rusty tin roof.
The non profit also operates two other boarding houses in locations outside Yangon.
One with 70 children (50/50 girls boys) on the West Coast, and a relatively new home with 6 children on the South West Coast.
The boarding house construction was finished in 2018.
