Is it just me, or do Monday mornings have a bad reputation for being a struggle? Somehow the weekends seem to fly by and before I know it, the first morning of the week is here. Back to reality. Back to the daily grind.
To help with my Monday morning drag, more times than not you will find me wearing the same outfit that I wore to church on Sunday and an extra little tease of the leftover curls in my hair. No need to iron. No need to shampoo and dry. Just an extra few minutes to snooze, clear my head and get the day started.
On this particular Monday morning I find myself with some extra leg room. Wow! How did that happen?
Let me go through the checklist in my head.
Quiet time. Check.
Shower and dress. Check.
Deodorant. Check.
Vitamins. Check.
Brush teeth. Check.
Make the bed. Check.
Feed the cat. Oops. Forgot that.
So what else did I do this morning?
Unloaded the dishwasher. That never happens!
Eat breakfast. I am totally feeling like a rock star at this point!
As I bite into my toast, which is nice and crispy from the air fryer, an instant explosion of crumbs launches and attaches to my freshly painted lips. This is now quite the predicament. Do I wipe it off and repaint? Do I lick them until the crumbs are gone? Maybe. I mean, the plumping gloss I’m wearing doesn’t taste that bad after all. Kind of minty. Oh well, might as well finish my toast and figure that out later.
With a giggle at myself God gives me a sweet reminder. When things are done in the correct order, they work out better.
A verse that comes to mind is one that has been very present in our work lately.
Matthew 6:33 - But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Should I have eaten my toast first… before I put on lipstick? Yep.
That sure would have saved me some hassle.
Should I seek God and His will first… before I fret about my circumstances and try to fix things on my own? You better believe it!
Thank you, God, for the gentle reminder that you should come first. Thank you for helping me clean up my mess without a bitter taste. Thank you for working out the annoying crumbs that try to stick around. Thank you for the reassurance that You are working things out for my good!
