“I find Anne to be an outstanding Alexander Technique (AT) practitioner who has helped show me a different way of being in the world. A being-ness that is gentler and kinder, and more aware. Anne sees all of me as I walk into a room, which includes both my physical and emotional states. She has also helped me become more aware of my own body and to go from judging to allowing.
I have now been attending AT lessons with Anne for nearly 1.5 years. I first met Anne at the Melbourne North Fitzroy AT student clinic in July 2016. I continued with her for a second term of the student clinic, and then followed her into private practice. I find her holistic method very satisfying as not only does she provide a safe space to explore AT directions but she also enables me to take the AT directions out into the world, for example from sitting in a tram, to playing the clarinet, to being at work.
My first experience with the Alexander Technique was in the early 1990s where I attended, in Sydney, a group class for two semesters. I then had three private lessons where I had an “ah-ha” moment. However the private teacher was fully booked and I did not continue. My experience in Melbourne, before Anne, was with a private practitioner for two series’ of ten lessons.
I have had a lot of different teachers over the years, principally in the fields of yoga, music, and Tai Chi, and I have to say that I treasure and respect Anne. Thanks to our work together I can take all of me out into the world with less drama, less judging, and be more at ease.

“I am a dentist and started to have Alexander Technique lessons due to a chronic pain around the coccyx. I discovered how to move around the surgery while treating my patients without unnecessary movements which hurt my joints, muscles and bones. I also found out how we hurt ourselves on a daily basis - doing household chores, driving and even while sleeping, due to awkward positions.
Now, I am more aware of the position of my body and I feel that a lot of tension has been released. I have also been able to learn how to relax, to be mindful of my day-to-day activities and to start doing exercises again with more confidence.”

“I began running 12 years ago in my late 30s and have had many injuries since then. My ankles are quite weak and I have had numerous falls and stress injuries over the last decade. My usual response was ice, rest, and physiotherapy. This treatment was generally successful but the injuries kept reoccurring, until a year ago when I was taught by Anne Carroll, a certified Alexander Technique teacher.
Anne observed me run and showed me how to change my thinking and my posture while running. Anne noticed that I tended to run with my head down, watching my feet, in order to prevent another fall. Anne taught me how to run with my head held high, using my peripheral vision to take in the world around me.
A year later and I am injury free. I have just completed my eighth half marathon and plan to run into old age. Thanks to Anne's calm and caring manner, and her high level of observation and perception, together with a deep knowledge of the Alexander Technique, I have learnt to run and think differently. I am a better more confident runner than ever. Thank you Anne”.

"I am very thankful for the excellent tutoring you gave me. That really assisted me to remember what was necessary to adjust my bad habits eventually into good ones.
Thank you for all the encouragement, and right when I needed it.

"Anne was recommended to me by a friend, and I can see why. As well as knowing so much about the body through the Alexander Technique and other modalities, she seems to have some sort of laser analysis of those slight movements that you didn't even know you were making. She knows exactly what to do, and how much is too much, and sends you into your day with a sense that you have been realigned and can cope with the world a lot better. "
