“I understand the challenges of living with chronic pain. After many years of work-related stress I suffered a number of relatively minor back injuries while practising yoga. After many months of ongoing and deepening pain, I discovered from a scan that the injuries had healed.
There was now no physical explanation for the ongoing symptoms. I used a number of different therapies to address the pain, and whilst these were helpful, the pain continued, along with a deepening anxiety and despair.
This began to change in 2011 when I encountered mindfulness meditation and the Alexander Technique. Through these powerful practices I was supported to develop an awareness of the ways in which my movements, thinking and posture were tightening and constraining me physically and emotionally.
Things began to change. I embarked on a life-changing journey of learning and growth which reduced the physical and emotional tension and increased my wellbeing.
Inspired by my growing wellbeing I made the decision to enrol in a teacher training program at the Melbourne School for FM Alexander Studies. I learnt to understand and release harmful movement patterns and move with greater freedom and ease. I also learnt to use a constructive, mindful awareness to develop a broader array of responses to life’s challenges. This has led me to a richer, improved outlook on life. I was increasingly able to apply my new learning at home, work and to my yoga practice. My wellbeing and enjoyment of life increased significantly. I now teach yoga regularly and have a private Alexander Technique practice in Boronia.”
"The Alexander Technique and mindfulness meditation provide the foundations for the way I live and teach. I am committed to providing a safe and compassionate environment for you to explore and heal your pain."
