About Mississippi River Lock and Dam 13

Pool 13 of the Mississippi lock and dam system is a wonderful place to view wetland and river wildlife. The elevated, paved causeway to the dam allows easy access for handicapped visitors. At the dam, visitors can use an elevated platform to view boats moving through the lock and watch flocks of fish-eating birds, such as bald eagle, American white pelican, double-crested cormorants, and multiple gull species. Large flocks of migratory waterfowl are easily viewed in the spring and fall. Sandhill crane sightings are also common between March and November.
