Homework at Mides Academy is a vital part of the learning process. It is designed to:
Reinforce and extend knowledge gained in classroom activities.
Encourage independent study, responsibility, and time management skills.
Prepare students for upcoming lessons, assessments, and examinations.
Foster good study habits that will support lifelong learning.
Homework Days
All homework will be assigned on Monday and is due for submission on Friday of the same week.
This provides students with sufficient time to plan, manage, and complete their tasks effectively.
Year Groups 7–9
Students will receive homework in core subjects (Maths, English, Science) every week.
Other subjects may assign homework tasks on a bi-weekly basis.
Each subject’s homework should take 30–45 minutes to complete.
Year Groups 10–11
Students will receive homework in all subjects weekly to support GCSE preparation.
Tasks are designed to reinforce classroom learning and prepare students for examinations.
Each subject’s homework should take 45–60 minutes to complete.
Homework will be set and managed across three official platforms:
MyMaths – for mathematics homework, practice, and revision.
ScienceSpark – for science assignments, quizzes, and project work.
MyReader – for English, reading assignments, creative writing, and other literacy tasks.
Students are expected to regularly check these platforms and complete all assigned work before the Friday deadline.
Homework deadlines are Friday at 11:59 PM, unless otherwise specified by the teacher.
Students must submit their work through the appropriate platform.
Late submissions without a valid reason will not be accepted and will result in a homework detention.
Failure to complete or submit homework by the deadline will automatically result in a homework detention.
Homework detentions will take place after school, supervised by a member of staff.
During detention, students will be required to complete their outstanding tasks.
Persistent failure to complete homework will result in parental meetings and further disciplinary action.
Mides Academy is committed to ensuring students succeed in managing their homework:
Teachers will set purposeful, meaningful, and appropriately challenging homework.
Students experiencing difficulty should seek help from their teacher well before the Friday deadline.
A Homework Club will run after school, offering extra support, internet access, and a quiet space for study.
Parents/guardians play a key role in supporting homework completion by:
Encouraging a quiet and consistent study environment at home.
Checking students’ planners and online platforms weekly.
Communicating with staff if there are genuine reasons why homework could not be completed.
Teachers will check and mark homework in a timely manner.
Feedback will be provided to help students improve their learning.
Patterns of incomplete or poor-quality homework will be monitored, and interventions will be put in place where necessary.
Homework must be completed independently by each student.
Copying, plagiarism, or submitting work that is not a student’s own will result in consequences and the task being redone.
This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it meets the needs of students, staff, and parents at Mides Academy.
