Conflict is an inevitable and unavoidable obstacle to overcome in an organization. How conflict is managed can dictate if the outcome will be positive or negative. Negative implications of conflict can compromise an organization and thus leaders should learn strategies to adequately manage it.
This presentation explored transformational leadership, servant leadership, and visionary leadership styles to manage conflict. There are many antecedents to conflict, some of which are unavoidable, but most can be managed, mitigated, or even prevented with the right strategy. The O.F.T.E.N. strategy is one such approach which stimulates a positive outcome between opposing perspectives. The experience cube offers a guide for difficult conversations and managing interpersonal conflicts. Indicators of successful conflict management include improved collegiality, environment, and productivity. Once these are implemented, one should reflect, evaluate, and seek feedback. By using these strategies, conflict can be resolved in a successful manner to benefit the organization.
