The Museu Geològic del Seminari de Barcelona (MGSB) is a scientific institution linked to the Archdiocese of Barcelona, founded in 1874 as the successor to the Cabinet of Natural History (1817). It is primarily dedicated to paleontological research, with nearly 90,000 records and around one million fossil specimens. Its holdings include a Typotheca with more than 700 holotypes, as well as a significant mineralogical and malacological collection.
Its collection continues to grow thanks to contributions from scientists and collectors. The Museum Library, one of the most important in Spain in its field, comprises approximately 17,000 titles and some 6,000 separate items. It also houses a map library of regional topographic and geological maps, a historical archive with a valuable documentary collection, and a photographic archive frequently consulted for research purposes.
The MGSB collaborates through agreements with the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC) and also with the Catalan Institute of Paleontology (ICP).
