Handguns in Metal Gear Online are secondary weapons you can carry alongside your primary weapon and support weapons. They mostly serve as a reserve clip of ammo for when the situation is too intense to reload your primary weapon. In certain builds and game modes however, they can be a core strategy.
Lightweight and fast reloading for high mobility gameplay.
Very good at strafe firing accurately. Is not reliant on the Handgun skill to perform well.
Can be used whilst you have an enemy in a CQC hold for hostage situations.
Very good Auto Aim range.
The worst effective headshot range. Best used at close range unless it's the MK.2 tranquilizer.
Low torso and limb damage.
Bullet damage drops off very rapidly with distance.
Tire foes with a few MK.2 PISTOL shots, then knock them out with the shield.

Reveal enemy locations by going for MK.2 PISTOL headshots, then scanning them as they sleep.

Quickly put foes into hostage situations. Best used in Friendly Fire enabled lobbies.

Quickly throw enemies to the ground, then put them to sleep with an MK.2 PISTOL body shot.
