Our fellows spend half of their first year on endoscopy service. During that time, they spend each day performing diagnostic procedures in children with gastrointestinal symptoms as well as surveillance procedures on children with inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, and eosinophilic esophagitis.
First year fellows typically perform about >300 upper endoscopies and >120 colonoscopies during their endoscopy service time as a first year.
Fellows also have the opportunity to become proficient in the performance and interpretation of advanced procedures such as anorectal manometry (ARM), esophageal manometry, pH/impedance probe placement, and wireless BRAVO pH sensor placement. Our fellows also gain exposure to endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) with the interventional endoscopists.
