Welcome to MassGeneral for Children!
Congratulations on your decision to go into Pediatric Gastroenterology!
You've made a great decision. Pediatric GI has so much -- acute and chronic medical problems, the ability to perform procedures to diagnose problems, a wide range of ways to study these conditions, and most importantly, the ability to develop long-term relationships with your patients and their families.
Our program strengths include:
1) Busy clinical (inpatient and outpatient) service to develop your clinical skills
2) Robust endoscopy service where you will feel very confident in your procedural skills
3) A fellowship program that responds to your needs during training
4) Wide range of NIH-funded research mentors to embark on your academic career
5) Strength of the research community of MGH and Harvard Medical School to provide additional training
Our program creates a structure to support you as you develop into a pediatric gastroenterologist. We have a robust clinical service, an endoscopy unit that is among the busiest in the country, and large patient populations of complex medical needs (e.g. our IBD patient group is one of the largest in ImproveCareNow). We strive to have our fellows be the ones to drive care -- your continuity clinic patients see you as their doctor, the inpatient service is led by the fellow -- we want you to be as prepared to be a leader in the field as you graduate.
It is so important to us that your research time truly is protected. This is the time that you and your research mentor can develop and carry out a research project. During your research years, you'll continue to have your continuity clinic, attend our didactic lectures, and take weekend call, but we otherwise make sure that this time is protected.
Please reach out if you have any questions!
Best,
Chris Moran
