Introduction to Garageband

INTRODUCTION TO GARAGEBAND

Welcome to this lessons page for Garageband.

These Garageband video lessons will be split across ten videos and take you from the first steps of opening and accessing the App, up to creating, editing and sharing your own songs.

Garageband is an Apple App for iPhone and iPad. It is free to download from the App Store. Unfortunately, it does not work on non-Apple devices, see the Android or Browser Apps listed on the Technology page for alternatives.

Introduction to Garageband 1 Starting with Tracks & Apple Loops

Garageband has two song-creation windows - TRACKS and LIVE LOOPS. Each is suited to a slightly different approach to songwriting. These lessons will teach you about both, how to use them separately and how the two can be linked.

This first lesson introduces you to the App and using Apple Loops inside Tracks.

Introduction to Garageband 2 Starting with Live Loops

Live Loops adds a DJ-ing element to song creation in Garageband. Using a grid of buttons, users trigger loops individually or in groups, bringing a performance element to the use of Apple Loops.

This lesson covers the basic controls of Live Loops and performing a pre-programmed song.

Introduction to Garageband 3 More Tracks & Apple Loops

This video continues the first Tracks and Apple Loops lesson, looking in more detail at the Apple Loops search tools and at the basic mixing controls, both of which are equally relevant to Live Loops users.

Introduction to Garageband 4 Creating a new song in Live Loops

This video looks at creating a new song in Live Loops using Apple Loops. It also looks at simple methods of copying loops and song sections.

Remember to always tap My Songs at the end of every session to SAVE your song.
