‘Even though I was working below them, I felt equal to them. They didn't treat us like employees; they treated us like mates.’

‘Each year I see the students make incredible progress in a short space of time. It’s rewarding for all of us, with the students experiencing the high speed, high pressure, professional environment of the Green Man Festival and my team being involved in their impressive journeys.’
Matt Royston-Bishop, AV Manager at Green Man Festival & Project Mentor
This a week-long training placement taking place at Green Man Festival. You will be expected to arrive 2 days prior to the event going live to set up camp, meet the crew and get familiar with the festival site and Far Out backstage area.
You will be part of the stage crew rota and will be expected to complete your shifts professionally. You will be responsible for operating the front-of-house and stage cameras as well as editing the live feed backstage using Vision Mixer. You will be supervised and supported by the AV team, under the management of Green Man’s AV Manager. Filming world-renown acts in front of 5,000 people, you will be working in an extremely fast-paced and highly professional environment. You’ll need to be able to deliver under pressure and control your nerves. The experience will see you work as part of a big team and autonomously. It will help you build self-confidence, put your communication and interpersonal skills to the test, improve your decision-making and leadership skills while enjoying the great atmosphere of a music festival like no other.
Alongside your camera training, this programme also requires you and your fellow trainees to shoot and edit a short film about your Green Man journey. You are expected to be shooting and finalising your film on site with the aim of premiering it on the last day of the festival as part of the Cinedrome’s day programme. The Cinedrome is Green Man’s cinema tent, with a capacity of 1,000 people. This is a group project that will become part of your 3rd and final year portfolio but you will be assessed individually.
“I thought I should update you on the situation; I currently have on board:
Harrison Williams – Data Wrangling
Amy Jones – AD/Production
Callum Parfitt – Art Department
Tom Dix – AD / Production
Darren Brown – Data Wrangling
At the end of the first week of filming, the feedback has been quite incredible. I have members of the crew coming up and commenting on how eager this bunch is to learn, and how well they’ve fitted in.
I cannot begin to praise these guys highly enough. They all muck in, work as a team within themselves, but also as individuals in their relevant departments. They have the confidence to work effectively, but never overstep the mark.
Whilst most of them are working under the supervision of a mentor on set, Darren and Harrison are working independently in charge of the data-wrangling. This is a task that they have taken to like ducks to water. For the first couple of days, I was quite nervous…as their role was pivotal in collecting the material ready for post. If they messed up, I’d be left with no footage. Not a great position – given the star studded cast we have on board. I’m happy to say, however, that by now, they have totally grown into the role – and I am very confident in their ability, and impressed with their work.
So, at this stage I just wanted to send this note through to keep you all updated, and give interim feedback.
In the meantime, whatever you feed your students on in the Atrium – keep it up. They’re great!!!!”
